What is a Dental Implant?
If missing teeth are affecting your oral health or confidence, a dental implant could be a long-term solution that looks and functions just like a natural tooth.
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that functions like an artificial root, providing a strong foundation for a replacement tooth.
It also helps restore the look and function of your smile while supporting your oral health by preventing shifting teeth and bite issues.
Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Book an appointment with our dentists to find out if dental implants are the right fit for you.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth may start to shift into the empty space, potentially causing misalignment. Additionally, the bone in that area can begin to deteriorate, reducing support for nearby teeth and increasing the risk of further tooth loss.
The Dental Implant Process
The dental implant procedure involves placing a titanium implant and fitting it with a custom tooth replacement.
If you and your dentist have decided that a dental implant is right for you, we will refer you to a local periodontist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon to have the implant surgically inserted into your jaw bone beneath the gum line. As the area heals, the implant gradually fuses with the bone.
After a healing period of about three to six months, you’ll come back to our office to complete the treatment.
At that point, your dentist will design a custom tooth replacement, such as a dental crown, bridge, or denture, to restore both the appearance and function of the tooth. This replacement is then securely attached to the implant, completing the process.
